From Mr Millbourne
Thank you to those parents who attended our coffee morning today, it was great to talk about school life and how the children have been getting on so far this term. We also discussed combining both the infant and junior newsletters, so today, Mrs Hughes has been busy combining them. We will signpost key information and keep you up to date with future events.

Earlier in the week, I met with the Friends of Prettygate to talk about fundraising priorities for the future. We are so fortunate to have a committed group who are able to organise such wonderful events for the school community.
We will keep you posted about how your support is impacting both the infant and junior schools.

Chinese New Year
Today Year 2 have been learning about Chinese New Year. We had a visit from a Tai chi instructor who showed the children some moves. The children also took part in lots of activities throughout the day. Photos can now be seen in the gallery.

School Dinners
Week commencing 27th January we will be eating meals from Menu 1. Just to let you know that there has been a small change to menu 3. The roast dinner on Wednesdays will now be roast gammon with roast potatoes. This replaces the roast beef with mash. If you would like to make any changes please speak to the office staff as soon as possible.

Dogs
Dogs are not allowed on the school site at any time. If you are bringing your dog to school and tying it to the railings outside school please ensure it is away from families passing in close proximity. A few children have been scared by dogs being tied closely to the school gate.

Reception Snack Time
Children in our Reception classes have snack time each day and we ask for a voluntary contribution of £15.00 per term towards this. We are now collecting contributions for the Spring term. Thank you to the people who have already paid their money for this term. Please bring your contribution to the school office if you have not already done so.

Gym Tasters
We have been asked to inform you of a gym taster session at the Colchester School of Gymnastics. It takes place during the half term holiday. If you would like more information please see the poster on the parent’s board outside the infant school office.

Unwanted Visitors
We have had a few cases of headlice reported to us this week. Please check your child’s hair over the weekend and treat if necessary.

Birdwatching
This weekend is the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Please spend some time over the weekend to see how many different birds you can spot in your garden or the local park. Please see the link for more information from the RSPB. https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/
Children in the infant school will be bird spotting next week. We will count how many different birds we see in our school ground and submit our results to the RSPB.

Year 4 Athletics
Congratulations to the Year 4 Sportshall Athletics team who returned victorious from Essex University on Tuesday. They conducted themselves impeccably and competed brilliantly against some very tough competition from 12 other schools across Colchester. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped with transport and well done to everyone involved.
