Year 2 – Great Fire of London
On Thursday this week our Year 2 classes burned down their Tudor houses as part of their topic of The Great Fire of London. There was great excitement on the school field as they watched the houses burn. Photos can be seen in infant gallery.

Library Books
We are collecting up any school library books across both schools that may have gone astray over recent terms/years - for this reason we are offering a “book amnesty”. Please bring in any books you have at home, no matter how long you have had them – just drop them into either school office and we will be very grateful. Please look under beds, in old book bags, in the bottom of the wardrobe – thank you so much.

Parents’ Evenings
Thank you to the parents who have booked their parents’ evening appointment online. If you have not yet made your appointment please do so before the booking closing date of midday on Thursday 27th February. If you should need any help booking an appointment please speak to the office staff.

Cross Country Teams
Congratulations to the cross country teams who attended the Colchester and Blackwater Partnership event along with 26 other schools in the last couple of weeks. The results are in and the children did magnificently:
Year 3 girls - 2nd
Year 3 boys - 4th
Year 4 girls - 3rd
Year 4 boys - 5th
Year 5 girls 1st and go through to county finals!!!
Year 5 boys 9th
Year 6 girls 4th
Year 6 boys 4th
All in top ten, 25 schools attended.
An incredible achievement with all the teams in the top five in their category. Well done to all the children involved and to all the staff and parents involved in preparing the children and transporting them to the event.

Year 6 Boys Football
The Year 6 boys' football team was in action again this week, playing against Friar's Grove in the Large Schools Football League. The match was played in difficult conditions, with cold and strong winds. However, both sides played some great football and the match finished 3-3. The boys are currently unbeaten in three games, with the next one coming against Heathlands after the half term break.

Unwanted Visitors
We have had a few cases of headlice reported to us this week in both the infant and junior school. Please check your child’s hair over the half term holiday and treat if necessary.

Junior School Tuck Shop
Our Junior School tuck shop prices will be changing slightly after half term to reflect increased prices from our supplier – please be assured that tuck shop is not run as a profit making scheme; we simply aim to cover our costs.
Melon and pineapple will be going up to 15p. All other prices remain the same – carrot, cucumber, breadsticks are 5p, apples and bananas are 20p.

Year 6 – Leavers’ Hoodies
Thanks to all the year 6 parents who have returned your leavers’ hoodie permission slips. May I remind those of you who have not yet done so that we need a form from you whether you give permission or not – the deadline is Friday 28th February. Please remember that you are not committing to buying a hoodie – merely agreeing that your child’s name will appear in small print inside the large number 20 on the back of the hoodie.

Friends of Prettygate – Fundraising
The Friends of Prettygate have some exciting fundraising activities and events coming soon. After the half term holiday each class will have their own bottle for collecting 5p coins. The 5p Challenge is to see who can collect the most 5p coins. One class from both the infant and junior school will win a prize of a selection of playground toys for the whole school to use. So please start saving your 5p coins for us.
On Tuesday 24th March from 5.00pm to 7.00pm Rollerworld in Colchester is reserved just for families and friends of Prettygate Schools. Every booking will raise funds for our school. Please follow the link to book your tickets https://www.rollerworld.co.uk/prettygatejrr/

Illness and Absence
Attached is a flyer with guidance for parents to help you decide if your child should be off school.

Parking around our School
Please can I once again ask you to be considerate to our neighbours when parking in Plume Avenue and the surrounding roads. We have had reports again this week of parents blocking people’s driveways and garages. Please be respectful of people’s property around the area of our school.
